Pinniped party!!

Pinniped party!!

Today Kaytee and I went to Sea World and I had the best day ever!!!

I fed the sea lions... It was so awesome! Sea World works with rescued
marine mammals and helps to train them. These guys were awesome!!

Kaytee tried to feed them too... But the fish were too slimy for her
to handle!

The birds swiped a few fish from me and one even took a chunk out of
my thumb! I have the tiny scar to prove it.

But, it was worth it to spend time with these amazing animals.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center supply drive!

You can help!! Since Kaytee and I are in Laguna Beach we are going to drop off some much needed supplies to the center. It is important that the pups have a lot of unflavored Pedialyte in order to stay hydrated.

PLEASE HELP!

Please post back top this blog if you would like to buy a bottle of pedialyte for $5.50. I will purchase the bottles while I am here and then I will collect the money when I return to VA.

Thanks for your support.

Please visit http://www.pacificmmc.org/ for more information on the Pacific Marine Mammal Center and all of the wonderful work they are doing.

Timid sea lion

This sea lion feels the cold wind and does not want to leave. Why give up free fish?!

Sea Lion Release!

This morning Kaytee and I watched as two rescued Sea lions were
released by the Pacific Marine Mammal Center's amazing staff. It was
really beautiful. At first when the cages were opened the sea lions
were hesitant. The larger sea lion went into his friends cage! Finally
they made a break for it and swam into the ocean. They swam next to
each other for a while and then we lost sight of them. It was such a
touching moment.

More photos later...

Sea Lions

When I arrived at the center I got to hang out with this crazy crew of
sea lions. They are at the center building up the strength to to back
to the wild.

They were stranded because they were sick or caught in debris floating
in the ocean. One little guy is eve missing his rear flippers! This
could be from a shark attack as they often attack seals from behind.
This group of pinnipeds will be released in about a month.

I was greeted by Kelly, one of the 4 staff members at the center. I
gave her the bottles of pedialyte I had purchased for the recovering
pinnipeds. Pedialyte is used to make fish smoothies for dehydrated and
underweight pinnipeds. She was really grateful for the donation and
she took me behind the scenes to see the intensive care unit where the
pups who need the most fish smoothies are taken care of. It was
amazing! I got to see who was going to drink the smoothies that I
provided. Hopefully, I made a difference in those pups lives today.
